I love you but I’m not “ in love” with you any more.
Our society does an inadequate job of preparing us for long term reality-based love relationships. We are all too familiar with the scintillating feelings of first-love. This type of love lasts for a year or two and is supposed to grow into a mature, lasting love that is much more durable and strong but is not always as exciting and vibrating as that beginning infatuation. Many people mistake the normal fading of the infatuation and believe they are falling out of love. They may not be so well equipped for building and maintaining a healthy, lifelong relationship. This is where some reading, skills-building and maybe, counseling can be useful to facilitate the communicating and relating that is essential to creating strong and vibrant bonds that can last a lifetime.
